FAQ: Feeding Programs

Why are the Feeding Programs so important?

No-one likes to be hungry and when you receive sufficient levels of nutrition regularly you not only gain the strength to think clearly and be physically capable to carry out tasks. In children this is even more important to ensure proper development of a growing body. Many long term and illness and complications suffered in the Philippines originate from poor diet and poor hygiene.

The JCI Feeding Program is intended as a both a short term and long term solution in the lives of the children.

How can I make sponsorship payments?

Payments can be made to JCI by credit card online, bank transfer, cheque or money order, please consider paying two, three or even six months at a time. This saves both you and JCI time and money.

Please make cheques payable to ‘Joshua Care International’. Receipts for payments are issued quarterly in order to minimise administration and postage costs.

How long does a sponsorship last?

When you sponsor a Feeding Program, you are not locked into a contract of any kind. We understand that your financial circumstances may change over time and if you are unable to make your regular contributions, we can assist you with a range of options.

I’m having difficulties can I get help?

If you are having financial difficulties, we may have ways to help you. Children are disadvantaged when we fail to hear from sponsors who cease their support, or who move without telling us.

How do I update my contact details?

If your contact details have changed please update your details with us using the contact us send link. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding sponsorships, donations or payments

Where do children eat if we don’t feed them?

If there is no food at home (which there often isn’t) children will either eat with relatives or friends or just go hungry. Often children have to be sent out for the day without food and they complain to us they have a ‘tummy ache’. They are just hungry. Children can often be seen looking for food amongst the rubbish.

How often are the Feeding Programs run?

Currently we run a run fortnightly feeding for approximately 100 people, mainly children. We are seeking to expand this with a short term goal to feed 150 children twice per week.

What kind of food do you give them?

We try to vary the menu but always aim to include protein, carbohydrate and a drink (for vitamins). Food is purchased directly from the markets and prepared for a culturally acceptable taste by volunteers. Often we serve rice or spaghetti with either mince, sausage or egg and a juice for Vitamin C. Often vitamin supplements are also provided.

Who does the preparation and distribution of the food?

JCI has a team of volunteers who assist with the purchasing, preparation and distribution of food. These volunteers include some of the parents of JCI recipients and other parents from in and around the graveyard.

What other activities are done in a Feeding?

A ‘feeding’ often includes other activities such as games, bible stories, singing and sometimes the provision of vitamins and/or medicines such as de-worming treatment.
